While 5 Seconds of Summer, Australian’s new pop-punk boy band of the now, might be best known for their raucous, high-powered tunes that toe the line somewhere between Simple Plan and One Direction, “Amnesia,” the newest single off the quartet’s self-titled debut album, is much more restrained, an acoustic ballad more in the vein of, say, Ed Sheeran.
The music video for the song, released today (July 31), is a similar affair. “Amnesia” is reflective and contemplative, as the boys remember a love that has been lost and they wish they could forget by losing their memories of the relationship entirely.

5 Seconds of Summer are seen in various locations singing the song, oftentimes noticeably alone, like Calum Hood, who’s found sitting on the kitchen floor as he belts out his verses.
The shots of woe are mixed in with what appear to be flashbacks of times when the guys had their ladies with them as they frolic around town and in a swimming pool. The images are certainly fitting for, say, a summer fling that’s come to an end, which many are undoubtedly experiencing or will experience in the coming month or so.
